MIDDLE GRADES SCIENCE COURSE PATHWAY

Teacher residents are required to complete all 100 level courses in each category 

before moving on to 200 level courses and then will continue on to 300 level courses. 

Teacher residents in the TRP are expected to complete the program coursework within a structured timeframe of 18 months. 

To stay on track, they are encouraged to complete at least one lesson per week. While the program is designed for timely completion, 

all teacher residents have up to three years to complete the program.


Teacher residents may complete courses within each tier (100-level, 200-level, and 300-level) in any order,

 as recommended by their TRP Advisor. In order to keep track of progress, 

a checklist is provided below with the courses required for program completion:

MIDDLE GRADES science COURSE CHECKLIST

Level 100 Courses

  • PS101: Introduction to the Teacher Readiness Program
  • TAL101: Foundations of Student Culture
  • C101: Planning and Internalizing Lessons
  • I101: Foundations of Rigor
  • SS101: Foundations of Professionalism
  • ET102: Theories of Middle Childhood and Adolescent Development

Level 200 Courses

  • PS202: Preparing for the edTPA
  • TAL201: Differentiated Instruction
  • C201: Assessments and Grades
  • I201: Data-Driven Instruction
  • SS201: Effective School Communication
  • ET201: Theories of Learning

Level 300 Courses*

  • C303c: Developing Standards-Based Curriculum for Secondary Science
  • I301: Technology in the Classroom


*There are limited Level 300 Courses in order to allow teacher residents to devote time to completing the edTPA

 For a complete description of each course, please refer to the Teacher Readiness Program Course Guide. 


📌Note: The following courses require teacher residents to be actively teaching in order to complete course requirements:

● TAL101: Foundations of Student Culture

● I101: Foundations of Rigor

● I201: Data Driven Instruction


Teacher residents should coordinate with their TRP advisor to ensure these courses are scheduled during the academic year, 

while school is in session. These courses may require residents to submit video recordings of their classroom instruction 

or use current classroom data as part of course assignments.
